AUDITION NOTICE

Ruddigore

The Gilbert & Sullivan Very Light Opera Company will hold auditions for all principal roles, and to fill chorus vacancies, for its Spring 2009 production of Gilbert & Sullivan's Ruddigore. The stage director will be Lesley Hendrickson and Lee Fuchs will be music director. Auditions will be held on Sunday, November 16, 2008, from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Monday, November 17, 2008, from 7:00 to 10:00 pm, with callbacks on Tuesday, November 18, 2008.

Appointments are scheduled at ten-minute intervals. You can come without an appointment, but be prepared to wait, as those with appointments have priority. Even if you cannot come on the scheduled days, please indicate that in the comment field. It may be possible to make other arrangements.

The auditions will be held at Lake Harriet United Methodist Church (4901 Chowen Ave S, Minneapolis, MN) in South Minneapolis.

These are NOT paid positions. Please prepare a song or aria in English (it need not be memorized) for the audition. No pop or rock music, please. An accompanist will be provided. Those auditioning for a principal part will be asked to read dialogue.

Time Commitment:

Chorus rehearsals: Monday and Thursday evenings 7:00-10:00 from January 26, 2009 until we open on March 13, plus tech week Monday through Thursday, March 9-12. Some chorus may also be called on a few Tuesdays.

Principal rehearsals: Rehearsals start in January. You will have a rehearsal schedule, with call times generally on weeknights (Monday,Tuesday and Thursday) and Saturday morning, by arrangement with stage & music director. The final week's schedule will be the same as that of the chorus.

Performance schedule: Four weekends of performances: Friday & Saturday nights at 8:00 and Sunday afternoons at 2:00, March 13 through April 5, plus a Saturday matinee performances at 3:00, on March 28.

Performances are at Howard Conn Fine Arts Center, 1900 Nicollet Ave. S., in Minneapolis. Howard Conn is part the Plymouth Congregational Church complex.

Rehearsals will be at Lake Harriet United Methodist Church, 49th and Chowen in South Minneapolis.

About the Company:

The Gilbert & Sullivan Very Light Opera Company, since its founding in 1979, has produced all the Gilbert and Sullivan operettas. Performances take place at the Howard Conn Fine Arts Center (1900 Nicollet Avenue). We perform with an orchestra of about 25, and usually sell out our performances.
