Spring Show 2008 - Utopia, LimitedThis spring's production is Utopia, Limited, or The Flowers of Progress. It is almost the Twentieth Century and the sun never sets on the British Empire. Even the island paradise of Utopia wants to be British. Utopia, Limited is Gilbert's rollicking lampoon of British imperialism, complete with a prudish British governess, a starry-eyed native king, scheming anti-British ministers, and children educated to everything British. Enter "The Flowers of Progress", representatives of the best Britain has to offer the aspiring countries of the world. Utopia, the perfect country, will never be the same. Sullivan's music carries the audience along the journey with his expert versatility. We are lifted to heights of inspiration and splashed with “government as dance hall” songs. And the solution to everything will be horrifyingly familiar to us all.
Utopia, Ltd. will open Friday, February 22 and close Sunday March 16, 2008. The show will play Fridays and Saturdays and 8:00 pm and Sundays at 2:00 pm. There will be a special matinee at 3:00 Saturday, March 8.
