Summer Show 2008 - The Pirates of PenzanceFor several summers we collaborate with the Minneapolis Pops Orchestra in performing a concert version of a Gilbert and Sullivan operetta at the Lake Harriet Bandshell. This summer we will perform: The Pirates of Penzance, or the Slave of Duty
Frederick, an apprentice pirate, wants to give up piracy and lead a blameless life. As he follows Frederick's star-crossed jouney, Gilbert manages to lampoon the army, the police, and "respectability." And remember, it's all about leap year.
Sullivan's music magnificent and innovative, with a number of the songs that defined the two for years to come: "Poor Wadering One", "I am the Very Model of a Modern Major General", and "A Policeman's Lot is not a Happy One."
The performance is free. There are benches directly in front of the stage and lots of lawn seating beyond that. Plan to arrive early to get your choice spot.
When: Saturday July 12, 7:30, Sunday July 13, 5:30
No Tickets, attendance is free and open to the public.
